Abstract

In June and July 2000, a field excursion was undertaken by the authors to the Murgul area of the Artvin province, with three objectives. The first was to re-discover Rhodothamnus sessilifolius last collected in 1960 and still known from just the two gatherings from which it was described. The second purpose was to locate suitable large flowering populations of Rhododendron x sochadzeae and its parent species: R. ponticum and R caucasicum, on which Dr Milne could conduct pollination experiments to investigate the mechanisms by which this hybrid appears to be isolated from breeding with its parents. Finally, we intended to collect material of Sempervivum transcaucasicum,. for use in ongoing research into this genus by Dr. Terzioğlu, Dr. Karaer and Dr. Kutbay.
