The Effects of Marriage and Marriage Traditions in Hittites in Today’s Anatolia

Özet

Hititler, M.Ö. 1650’li yılların başlarında ortaya çıkmış ve yaklaşık olarak bin yıl boyunca Orta Anadolu, Güneydoğu Anadolu ve Kuzey Suriye’de varlığını devam ettirmiş bir uygarlıktır. Çalışmada Boğazköy/Hattuşa’da bulunan kil tabletlerde yer alan yasal düzenlemelerden yola çıkılmaktadır. Temel amaç, Hitit yasa metinlerinde aile, kadın ve evlilik ile ilgili hükümler ve örnek olayları incelemek ve günümüz Anadolu’sunda evlilik ile gelenek ve görenekler üzerindeki etkilerini ortaya çıkarmaktır. Çalışmada elde edilen sonuçlara göre her iki toplum için aile temel bir yapı olarak kabul edilmekte ve önemsenmektedir. Bir diğer sonuca göre de erkek egemen toplum anlayışı ve evliliğin ekonomik süreç olarak kabulü iki toplumda bulunmaktadır.

Abstract

Hittites was a well-established civilization that existed in the early 1650s BC. in Central and Southeastern Anatolia and Northern Syria for nearly a thousand years. In this study, the legal regulations in the clay tablets in Boğazköy/Hattusa have been based on. The main purpose is to examine the provisions and case studies related to family, woman and marriage in the Hittite legal texts and to reveal their effects on marriage, traditions and customs in today’s Anatolia. According to the results obtained in the study, the family is accepted and considered as a basic structure for both communities. The other result in that study is the prevalence of maledominant society and marriage as an economic process in both societies..
