John E.A. Wickham 1983de ilk kez minimal invazivcerrahi terimini kullanmıştır.

Abstract

From the first civilization on, tubes have been used in medicine for diagnosisand treatment. Rectal speculum was the first ever described endoscopic assessment method. Phillip Bozzini invented the first modern endoscope in1805,Antoine Jean Desormeaux invented a multipurpose endoscope by improvingBozzini s Lichtleiter. Intraabdominal use of tubes(laparoscopy) was startedin1901 by Georg Kelling who first introduced the cystoscope into the abdominal space of a dog. Dramatic improvements were made in laparoscopicinstruments and technique by studies of Kurt Semm. John E.A. Wickham usedthe term minimal invasive surgery for the first time in1983.The objective of this manuscript is to guide surgeons through transluminalapproach which was established by simultaneous discovery of endoscopy andlaparoscopy, and improved by the introduction of Natural Orifice EndoscopicSurgery (NOTES) in 2004.
