Abstract
Aim: The videourodynamic study outcomes in patients with vesicoureteralreflux were retrospectively reviewed. The aim of this study is to evaluate therelationship between the idiopathic detrusor overactivity and the grade ofvesicoureteral reflux. Material and Method: We reviewed retrospectively thevideourodynamic traces of 71 vesicoureteral reflux patients without neuropathic conditions. Patients were divided into two groups: Patients withoutconcomitant detrusor overactivity (Group 1), and patients with concomitantdetrusor overactivity (Group 2). The reflux grades were divided into twogrades; low-grade reflux (grades 1 and 2), high-grade reflux (grades 3, 4and 5). Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: Patients agesranged between 5 and 16 years (mean 8.37±2.97 years). Of the 71 patients,39 (54.9%) had a normal detrusor activity (Group 1), 32 (45.1%) had a de- trusor overactivity (Group 2). Twenty-five (64.1%) patients in-group 1 had alow-grade reflux, 14 (35.9%) patients had a high-grade reflux. In-group 2,17 (53.1%) patients had a low-grade reflux, 15 (46.9%) patients had a high- grade reflux. There was no significant difference between the two groups(p=0.488). Discussion: The idiopathic detrusor overactivity can be observedduring urodynamic investigation of patients with vesicoureteral reflux, but ithas no effect on the grade of reflux.
