Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study is to compare retrospectively gastroscopic findingsof asymptomatic patients undergoing hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.Material and Method: Gastroscopic data of 101 patients with chronic renalfailure waiting kidney transplantation were evaluated in the current study. Ofthe 101 patients, 77 were undergoing hemodialysis and 24 were undergoingperitoneal dialysis. H. pylori status in patients with endoscopic findings wasevaluated by the rapid urease test. The demographic data and gastroscopicfindings of the patients were recorded. Results: Gastroscopic findings wereabnormal in 66.2% of hemodialysis group and 45.8% of peritoneal dialysisgroup. Gastritis was the most frequent finding in both groups. H. pylori rapidurease positivity was 31% and 54% of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysisgroups, respectively. Discussion: No significant difference in gastroscopicfindings was observed between two groups of patients undergoing different dialysis modalities. H. pylori prevelance was also similar in both groups.
