Abstract

Aim: Hashimato thyroiditis also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis orautoimmune thyroiditis is characterized by lymphocyte and plasma cell infl-tration of thyroid follicles causing destruction and atrophy in thyroid tissue.Reports on coexistence of several HLA antigen types in Hashimoto thyroiditismay indicate genetic predisposition. Parvovirus B19 is a prevalent and singlestranded DNA virus that can cause disease in humans. Parvovirus B 19 infection may be responsible for autoimmune disorders or trigger them. The aimof our study was to evaluate the relationship between Parvovirus B19 andHashimato thyroiditis. Material and Method: Fifty patients with Hashimatothyroiditis that were admitted to our Internal Medicine outpatient clinic andthirty healthy subjects were included in this study. Parvovirus B19 IgM andIgG were studied by EIA (Virion/Serion, Germany). Statistical analysis of thedata was studied with chi-square test at Izmir University School of MedicineDepartment of Biostatistics . p 0.05). IgG levels in patient group was statisticallysignifcant (p
