Abstract
Wiktor stent is a balloon-expandable tantalum coil stent with high radiopacity. From April 1995 to April 1 996, we implanted 56 Wiktor stents in 46 lesions (LAD: 23, RCA: 16, Cx: 7) in 42 patients (average age 53± 10 years). Revascularization indications were acute myocardial infarction (AMI) (45 %), unstable (31 %) and stab¬le (24 %) angina pectoris. All interventions were planned procedures except one. Stented vessels had an avera¬ge diameter of 3.14±0.27 mm and 7 % of the vessels were less than 3 mm in diameter. Deployment of the stents was succesful in all cases. Average percent diameter stenosis was reduced from 84 % to 6 % following stenting. Neither major cardiac event (death, CABC, AMI) nor subacute occlusion was encountered during the hospita¬lization period and 1 month follow-up. After discharge, ticlopidine and aspirin were given to all cases for 1 month and infinitely, respectively. Mean hospitalization period was 1.5 day. The restenosis rate was 25 % in 40 of the 42 patients who were symptomatic at long-term follow-up or completely event free for 8 months. Reste-notic lesions were redilated successfully in 8 patients. Conslusions The results of this study indicate the Wiktor stent to be implanted with a high procedural suc¬cess rate jith no major cardiac event. Besides, angiographic outcome with an acceptable rate of restenosis at 8 month follow-up, clinical, and radionuclide imaging follow-up for a period of 18 months is favorable.
