Abstract
Karasu Graben (Hatay) is a roughly NE-SW oriented tectonic depression formed by recent leftlateral strike-slip fault tectonics that has triggered quaternary basalt volcanism in the region. Thus, the basalt geomorphology is likely to show characteristics of a geomorphosite, with rich diversity, to have developed within the Karasu Graben. This study discusses the concepts of geoheritage, geosite, geomorphosite and geodiversity. The possibility that the basalt geomorphology in the Karasu Graben represents a geomorphosite has been evaluated based on the above concepts. Research shows that the basalt landforms in the Karasu Graben have geomorphosite potential because of the scientific nature, the potential in educational perspective, and the ability of geotourism. Also, it is accepted that the basaltic geomorphological heritage in study area is a natural asset that must be recognized, preserved and passed on to future generations.
