Özet
Günümüzde İzmir’in bir ilçesi olan Çeşme, MÖ 1000’li yıllarda antik İonya şehirlerinden birisiolarak kurulmuştur. XI. yüzyılda Çaka Bey döneminde Selçukluların idaresine geçmiştir. İlk kezYıldırım Bayezid döneminde (1389-1402) Osmanlılara bağlanan Çeşme, I. Dünya Savaşı esnasındaYunan işgaline uğrasa da milli mücadele sırasında geri alınmıştır.
Abstract
Chesma, which is a district of Izmir today, was founded as one of the ancient Ionian cities in 1000 BC. In the XIth century, during the Chaka Bey period, the Seljuks started to rule the city. Chesma, for the first time, during reign of the Yıldırım Bayezid (1389-1402) was taken under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. Although the Chesma was occupied by the Greeks during World War I, it was taken back during the National Struggle. Chesma, which has a long and rich history, stands out in the historical context with the defeat of the Ottoman navy by Russia in 1770. At the same time, the remains of the sinking ships as a result of the burning of the Ottoman Navy seem to be an interesting point of the Battle of Chesma. Because the Ottoman Porte spent a long time in different periods to remove these wrecks. The main focus of the article is the efforts of the Porte to remove ship wrecks from the sea during the Ottoman-Russian War of 1768-1774. In this context, the article evaluates the Ottoman-Russian relations around the Ottoman-Russian War of 1768-1774, and examines the Battle of Chesma and Chesma ship wrecks with new sources and archival documents.
