Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine current composition of image components of supermarkets function in TRNC. For this purpose, the literature review has been done and the definition of the concept and components of the concept has been discussed. The components included in the study are “service provided by the staff”, “quality of the product”, “product assortment”, “atmosphere”, “convenience”, “price/value” and “fast check out”. The variation in the perception of the components with regards to demographic variables, age, gender and education level is also tested in this study. The questionnaire of the study has been applied to shoppers of Lemar and Astro supermarkets which are located in Lefkosa, Girne and Magosa. The data were collected through face to face interview with the number of 312 usable questionnaires. As a result of the Principal Component Analysis, “service”, “price/value”, “product assortment” and “convenience” were determined as the components of the study. ANOVA and t-test were used to test the variations in the perceptions of the components. The findings indicate that the perception levels of accesibility, location and ease of entrence of supermarkets of the KKTC are positive; the price/value ratio and service levels are sufficient. Furthermore, those perceptions were varied with the demographic groups of the respondents.
