Özet

Bu çalışma, son dönemlerde, gelişim faaliyetlerine artan ilginin gerisinde ne olabileceği sorusunu temel almaktadır. Bu eğilimi gösteren kadın grubunun iyi eğitimli ve yüksek gelir elde ediyor olması, artan ilginin ve buna yol açan sorunun kişisel olmaktan ziyade sosyo--ekonomik olduğunu düşündürmektedir. Bu çerçevede, çalışma, mevcut iktisadi ve toplumsal yapıyı "yabancılaşma" ve" gösteriş tüketimi" kavramları temelinde analiz etmektedir. Çalışmada, iyi gelir elde eden, özel sektörde yönetici pozisyonunda çalışan kadın grubu örneklem olarak seçilmiştir. Bu bağlamda toplam onbir kadın ile derinlemesine mülakat yöntemi kullanılarak görüşülmüştür. Görüşme yapılan kadınlar, piyasada yoğun rekabet koşulları altında çalışmanın kendileri için yıkıcı etkisini vurgulamışlar ve böylece çalışmanın temel argümanını; kapitalizmin genelde bireyi özelde kadınları yabancılaştırdığını görüşünü desteklemişlerdir.

Abstract

This study focuses on the question of what lies behind the growing interest in “personal development activities” especially among women in recent years. In this context, the fact that the women who show this growing interest are usually well educated and employed in high—income that drives one to think that the incentive tendency may be rather socio— economic than personal. From this point of View, this study analyze the current economic and social structure on the basis of the concepts of alienation and conspicuous consumption. The selected sample group consists of women who are employed in high—ranking (mostly executive) positions in the private sector. Within the framework of this study, in—depth interviews were conducted with eleven women. The interviewed women who work under competitive conditions in the market emphasized the destructive effects on themselves and in this regard they supported our initial argument that capitalism alienates the individual in general and women in particular
