A comparison of the cytomorphology of oral smears using two image analysis systems

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı Vids V ve Seescan sis¬temleri kullanılarak ölçülen seçilmiş ağız dö¬küntülerinin ortalama çekirdek alanı (ÇA) ve si-toplazmik alan (SA) değerlerindeki herhangi bir değişikliği meydana çıkarmaktır. Klinik ola¬rak normal ve anormal 20 adet Papanicolaou boyası ile boyanmış ağız döküntüleri her iki sis-temlede ölçülmüştür. Vids V ile ölçülen ortala¬ma SA değeri Seescan ile ölçülenlerden belir¬gin bir şekilde büyük bulunmuştur. Ortalama ÇA için her iki sistem arasında belirgin bir farklılık gözlenmemiştir. Sonuç olarak Vids V ile ölçüldüğünde SA daha büyük bulunduğun¬dan, Vids V ile ölçülen ağız döküntüleri Sees¬can ile ölçülenlerle direkt olarak karşılaştırıla-mamaktadırlar.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to detect any variati¬on in the mean nuclear area (NA) and cytop¬lasmic area (CA) values for a selection of oral smears measured using the Vids V and Sees¬can systems. Twenty clinically normal and ab¬normal Papanicolaou stained smears selected randomly were measured with both systems. The mean CA value recorded with Vids V was significantly elevated compared with values re¬corded with the Seescan. There was no signi¬ficant difference between mean (NA) values for the Vids V and Seescan system respecti¬vely. In conclusion, because CA values appe¬ar to be larger when using the Vids V, smears measured using Vids V cannot be directly compared with those previously measured using Seescan.
