Abstract

A highly polished composite restoration is ne¬cessary to help promote a plaque-free envi¬ronment. Thus, maximum care should be ta¬ken of the finishing and polishing process for the composite resin materials used in the cli¬nic. In this study three different composite re¬sin types (Clearfil APX, Z 100, Experimental) only one type of polyacid-modified composite resin (Dyract) were used to determine the sur¬face roughness. With this aim, by the help of Sof -Lex (dry) and Hawe Neos dental (wet) fi¬nishing and polishing sets, after carrying out the finishing and polishing process on the sur¬faces of the discs obtained from the studying materials, their surface roughness were evalu¬ated with prophylometer and SEM. The surfa¬ce roughness of each sample was measured with a roughness analyser. Following the prophylometer examination all samples were evaluated by SEM. Statistical analyses indica¬ted insignificant differences between two finis¬hing and polishing sets (p>0.05). On the other hand in SEM, it has been observed that, after the process of finishing and polishing, Z 100 and experimental composite materials have smoother surface than the others.
