Abstract

The finding of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in oral cavity suggested that dentists and den¬tal workers may be at increased risk of this in¬fection their contact with patients' mouth and saliva. The aim of this prospective study was to observe the relationship between occupati¬onal exposure and transmission of H. Pylori infection. Therefore, 62 dental students and 33 dental personnel were included into the study. The control group was consisted of 75 no dentist students and 50 non dentist person¬nel. CLO-test was used to detect of H. Pylori in dental plaque. The prevalence of H. Pylori infection in dental students and personnel we¬re 24.2% and 21.2%, respectively. There we¬re no significant differences when compared with the non dentist students and personnel (OR:1.39; 95% CI: 0.57-3.42 and OR:1.65; 95% CI: 0.45-6.05). We conclude that dental students and personnel are not at increased risk to H. Pylori infection. These condition may relate with good oral hygiene and good hygienic sanitation during oral manipulations.
