Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of blood contamination on the sealing ability of three different root canal sealers in teeth with over preparation by means of dye and clearing method. In this study, 54 freshly extracted teeth with single root and mature apices were biomechanically prepared using the step back technique. Apical constriction enlarged with 55 K-file and then irrigated with 2,5% NaOCl solution. All teeth surfaces except access cavity were painted with two coats of finger nail polish within a 2-mm radius from the apical foramen. The teeth were divided in-to three groups of 18 teeth each. The sealers were used as follow: Group 1-CRCS, Group 2-AH 26, Group 3-Endomethasone. After obturation by lateral condensation of gutta-percha and root canal sealer, in each group while 9 teeth were immediately contaminated with freshly heparinized human blood, the others were kept in saline for 12 h. The roots were immersed in india-ink for 24 h., and then were demineralized and cleared. Linear dye penetration was measured in millimetre using a calibrated scale in the ocular of the dissection microscope. Presence or absence of blood had only significant effect on the amount of dye leakage for AH 26 (p
