Abstract
Objective: Dental caries is often seen in pits and fissures of premolar and molar teeth. Fissure sealants are highly effective in preventing the caries in the pits and fissures. Lossing of the material total or partially due to the poor adaptation, caries would be developed in the fissures of teeth. Application technique of fissure sealant is the major factor affected the retention of the material. In this study, the effectiveness of the application of pressure by an occlusal compressor on the retention, during the placement of fissure sealant was evaluated clinically at the end of the 3 years. Material and Methods: This study was performed on 172 teeth of 43 dental students. 86 fissure sealants were applied under pressure and the other 86 without under pressure. At the end of three years, 136 fissure sealant at 34 students were examined. Results: Fissure sealant placed under pressure were superior than the sealants applied without under pressure. The differences were statistically significant (X2=6.829, p
