Abstract

Osteochondroma, also known as osteocartilaginous exostosis, is one of the most common benign tumor of the skeleton. Up to date there is still no conclusion as to whether an Osteochondroma is a true neoplasm. It is most often observed in the axial skeleton and in the metaphyseal end of the long bones. The reported cases, which are located in the coronoid process, show the higher frequency in the literature, whereas the Osteochondroma of the mandibular condyle is extremely rare. When it occurs in the mandibular condyle, it appears to be unilaterally on anteromedial surface of the condylar process. Surgical excision followed by the immediate reconstruction for the cosmetic and functional continuty is the recommended treatment model for the Osteochondroma. The purpose of this case report is to describe briefly the presenting symptoms and the atypical location of a true Osteochondroma of the condyle.
