Abstract
Objective: The aims of this study were to evaluate the microleakage and marginal adaptation of Class II restorations made with different techniques. Material and Methods: Standard Class II and inlay cavities were prepared on 100 molar teeth. All restorations were made with Tetric (Vivadent Product, Liechtenstein) and Charisma composite resins (Kulzer GmbH, Wehrheim, Germany). In group 1, composite restorations were placed with incremental technique. Direct inlays and indirect inlays were prepared in groups 2 and 3, respectively. While ceramic inserts (SDS, Schumacher Dental Systems GmbH, Germany) were used in composite resto¬rations in group 4, pressure during polimerization along with ceramic inserts was applied to the ones in group 5. After thermal cycling the samples were kept in basic fuchsin solution and then they were sectioned. The sections were evaluated with a stere-omicroscope with respect to marginal leakage. The marginal adaptation of the sections was evaluated with a scanning electron microscope. Marginal microleakage data was evaluated statistically with Kruskall Wallis and a method based on the differences between mean row of groups Results: Statistically significant differences with regard to gingival microleakage were found among the groups. Conclusion: The results of the study showed that the application of ceramic inserts along with pressure during polymerization was effective in preventing the microleakage in composite restorations.
