Abstract
Eagle's syndrome results from elongation of styloid proces pr mineralization of stylohyoid or stylo-mandibular ligaments. Eagle's syndrome includes symptoms such as pharyngeal pain, sensation of foreign body lodged in the pharynx, dysphagia and odynophagia. A differential diagnosis should include TMJ disorders, myofacial pain, neuralgias, impacted third molars, oral infections, oral cancers and sialoadenitis. The correct diagnosis has impor¬tance because of occurence of similar signs and symptoms in other diseases localized in the head and neck region. The syndrome generally follows tonsillectomy or trauma. The clinical diagnosis of Eagle' syndrome is commonly achieved by digital palpation of the process in the area of the tonsillar fossa and panoramic radiography. The definitive diagnosis can be made by the use of local anesthesia in the tonsillar fossa. That's why, it is important for clinicians to have an extensive knowledge of all disorders. Eagle's syndrome can be treated surgically and non-surgically.
