Abstract

Introduction: Studying with phantoms is great contribution for dental education of conservative dental treatment. Phantoms have a great role on the preclinical treatment before the clinical treatment of patients. If these phantoms show as close naturally as the natural structures, performances of students over patients and clinical applications will be increased. The grades corresponding to the restorative applications were compared within each other so as to determine whether this education had an importance and bring benefits or not. Therefore, dentistry students could begin more qualified clinical studies. Objective: The aim of this study was to compare and contrast the restorations performed both in models prepare through plastic teeth inserted in conventional plaster and through phantom models developed with the help of high technology in terms of quality and the time spent. Methods: This study was conducted on the third year students at Hacettepe University, Faculty of Dentistry. The students divided into 5 groups. Evaluations were done by 5 instructors. The procedures (cavity preparation, zincphosphat cement application for base, amalgam application, polishing) of the restorations performed to put into plaster cast plastic teeth models and phantom models were determined considering the time and the results were analyzed statistically (t test) .
