Abstract

Introduction: -.Desensitizing agents which have diffe¬rent chemical structures, are used to minimize the hypersensitivity of dentin which often occur because of the reasons such as abrasion, fracture, gingival problem and preparation. However, these agents have different effects on the bond strength of the cements to dentin. Purpose: To evaluate the effect of two different desen¬sitizing agents on the bond strength of three different cements to dentin. Material and Method: The enamel of the occlusal sur¬faces of 45 molar teeth was removed until the dentin layer. The samples were divided into three groups. The first group had no treatment (Group K), in Group A and Group B, resin based desensitizing agent and fluoride containing desensitizing agent was used, respectively. All groups were divided into three subgroups (n=5) and a resin modified glass ionomer cement (Av) and two different adhesive resin cements (P and V) were applied to the subgroups. The data which were obtained after shear bond strength test were compared with two-way analysis of variance. The effect of desensitizing agents on the dentin surfaces were evaluated using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results: While there were significant differences betwe¬en the cement groups used in this study, Group KAv showed the lowest shear bond strength (p
