Abstract

Aim: The object of the study was to compare the color matching abilities and validity of the matching process of restorative dentists and undergraduate students. Subjects and Method: 2nd year undergraduate students (n=17) and restorative dentists with at least two years experience (n=17) of Başkent University, Faculty of Dentistry were included in the study. Ishihara color blindness test was assessed before further tests. 16 color tabs from Vita Lumin-Vacuum dental scale was fixed on a 45° platform placed in a viewing booth enlightened with D65 standardized light. There were 20 tabs were to be matched; the subjects were asked to mark the correct color code on a questionnare with one minute per match. Percent agreement on color matches and validity values were statistically evaluated and compared between the students and restorative dentists using two proportions z and validity tests. Results: Correct percentage agreement on all colors were statistically higher for restorative dentists, except for A2, A4, B1 and D4 color tabs (p
