Abstract

The fruits of Pimpinella anisum have been used in the treatment of infertility in folk medicine in some areas of Turkey. In this study, the effects of the infusions of P. anisum on the mitosis of plumula and radicle cells of Triticum aestivum were investigated. Because, the first germinal cells divide by mitosis in proliferation stage of gametogenesis. Wheat seeds were germinated by P. anisum infusions with 1,2,3,4 and 5 percent After four days, the heights of plumula and radicles were measured, the average datas were tested by ene way variance analysis. And then, the tips of radicle were prepared and colored with acetocarmine. The stages of mitosis were observed by microscope. Mitotic figures were counted for mitotic index. At the end of study, it was seen that the infusions of P. anisum partially inhibited mitosis. It must be examine the effects of P. anisum on the other stages of gametogenesis in laboratory animals.
