Abstract
Thrombosis is the most common cause of the morbi¬dity and mortality, however, its pathogenesis has not been elucidated exactly yet. It is reported that the resistance to activated protein C, which was defined recently, is the commonest hereditary etiologic factor. In this study, resistance to activated protein C was evaluated in young adults with various thrombo-embolic states. For this reason activated protein C ratios were determined in 31 patients and 36 controls. For 32.2 percent of patients 5.5 percent of cont¬rols the activated protein C ratios were below the 5tn percentil of the control values. It was calculated that the risk of thrombosis was increased 8-fold. With these results, "it is considered activated phrotein C resistance plays an important role in hypercoagula-tion and the morbidity and the mortality due to throm¬bosis will be decreased intensively with appropriate etiologic approach to the cases with risk factors.
