Abstract

Pilomatrixoma is an uncommon benign tumor that arises fromhair cortex cells. Generally; that this tumor is hard, slow growing, located dermal or sub dermal is also known as the nameof calcifying epithelioma of Malherbe’s. This lesion may occurat any age from infancy to elder and is the most commonunder age 20. Female to male ratio is 3/2 with female predominance. Approximately half of the cases are in the head andneck area. Although the head and neck region is the most frequent area where pilomatrixoma evolves, otolaryngologists donot have sufficient information and experience about the disease. Generally, this leads to misdiagnose of the lesion preoperatively. Therefore, clinical diagnostic features must be wellknown by the physician. This provides accurate diagnosis ofalmost all cases preoperatively. In this paper, we present a 22year-old female patient with diagnosis of pilomatrixoma in theneck region. Despite close excision to the lesion, the recurrence rate is very low. The purpose of this our case presentationis awareness of the disease and its clinical diagnostic featuresby the physicians, especially otolaryngologists.
