Özet

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess the prevalance of thrombocytosis in endometrial carcinoma and the relation between the platelet count and prognostic factors such as age, stage, grade, myometrial invasion, lymphovascular stromal invasion, peritoneal cytology. STUDY DESIGN: 228 patients with surgically staged endometrial carcinoma were evaluated retrospectively. Platelet count which was done one week prior to surgery matched with prognostic factors. RESULTS: Thrombocytosis was observed in 16 patients (7%). No statistical difference was observed between elavated count greater or equal to 300000 Per microliter or platelet count less than 300000 and prognostic factors. CONCLUSION: Althought some in vitro studies showed that platelets and malignant cell lines of endometrium secrete cytokines and growth factors causing proliferation or aggregation of each other thrombocytosis as a clinical outcome is not sinificant in endometrial carcinoma. Also prognostic factors in endometrial carcinoma does not significantly affect platelet counts.
