Abstract
There are tectonic unit which have been thrusted one over, the other in Salda Lake and the surrounding area. From the basement to the top, these unit are ophiolitic series, Kızılcadağ Melange and Jurassic age Doğanbaba limestones. The settlement age of these tectonic units in the study area is Pre-Lutetian. The ophyolitic series consist of main part. At the basement of these rocks, there are tectonites. These rocks are overlain by cumulates with a tectonic boundary. All of these rocks are cut by mafic dykes (veins). All of the formations at the basement are overlain with an angular disconformity by the'Niyazlar Formations whose age is Plio-Quaternary. Periodical wave movements of the lake result in occurence of magnesite in different structure. The cryptocrystalline secondary magnesite deposits have more than 92 % of MgO. The MgO content of the nodular magnesite deposited is higher than at the top of the lake mud crust. This shows that the oxides $Fe_2O_3$, $Al_2O_3$, $SiO_2$ and CaO must have been carried in to the lake envionment by means of rain and lake waves.
