Abstract
Tepearası formation belonging to the autochthonous Geyikdağı Group, Central Tauride Belt (SE of Beyşehir), is Dogger in age and is represented by compenent, massive limestones passing into grey coloured dolomites in the mid-to upper sections. The overall thickness of the dolomitle levels range between 150-200 m. and the laterally extends to 500-700 m. Three types of dolomites were distinguished through petrographical analyses: homogenous; saddle-crystalline; and joint-filling dolomite which were interpreted to have formed at two different stages being early-and post diagenetic. The homogenous dolomites of early diagenetic stage are represented by light colored, monotonous-textured, and dolosparite mosaic type of lithology. The saddle - crystalline dolomite, formed in the late diagenetic stage, has the chracteristics of light to dark color; coarser crsytalline; and of idiomorphic shape. The other type of epigenetic dolomites, namely the joint- filling typse, presents a crystal growth pattern from the center of the joint space towards the joint walls which are associated with coarse calcite crystals as well as primary dolomite crystal clasts which formed in the early diagenetic stage. In addition to these characteristics, cataclastic textural properties indicating the influence of tectonism are also observed. Mikrotexture oriented SEM studies indicate that saddle crystalline dolomites show zonal growth structures and contain secondary dissolution vugs. SEM studies also revealed the existence of some inclusions in joint- filling dolomites. EDS analyses indicate the existence of clay minerals (likely to be Mite) in the pores of dolomite. Mineralogy oriented XRD and EDAX analyses and geochemistry oriented AAS analyses and petrographic data suggest that the dolomitization in the Tepearası formation devoloped under the control of saline (rich in Mg) and fresh warm water (as a function of tectonic thrusting). The analyses carried out to determine the reservoir characteristics of dolomites in the Tepearası formation yield low- to very low values of porosity and permeability.
