Abstract
In this study possibility of evaluation of low-grade feldspar ores has been investigated by the froth flotation and magnetic separation methods. Batch flotation tests were carried out to upgrade the pegmatite type feldspar ore to meet the specifications required for the glass and ceramic industries. A flotation scheme consisting of three stages was suggested. The first stage was cationic flotation to float the micas; the second stage was anionic flotation to remove the iron-bearing minerals by using a combination of petroleum sulfonates and the third stage was a cationic for direct flotation of the feldspar mineral from the associated free silica by using amine collector in the presence of hydrofluoric acid. Effect of collector dosage was investigated at all the stages. In the experiments, recovery of alkali feldspar sample containing 6.07% K2O, 3.80% Na2O and 0.94% Fe2O3 was investigated using combination of froth flotation and magnetic separation methods. The results showed that a final feldspar concentrate assaying 8.82% K2O, 5.53% Na2O, 0.12% Fe2O3, 19.13% Al2O3, 0.02% TiO2 was obtained at the optimum operating conditions. Also, clean quartz concentrate was obtained as a by-product assaying 96.63% SiO2, 0.07% Fe2O3 and 0.02% TiO2. The feldspar and quartz concentrates meet the specifications required for ceramic and glass industries.
