Abstract
This study was carried out on the Holocene core deposits obtained from the various depths on the detlas of Gonen and Biga Creeks as well as the ontry of the strait of Dardanelles. The investigation was focused on the trase elements of Sr, Ga, Cr, Co, Ti, Zn, Pb, Ni, Cu, Ba, Zr, Yb, Y, P, Nb, Mn, Sn, Sc, Mo, V and the Corg distribution and the interrelationships between those chemical parameters. The difference between the values of such elements range from 1.8 to 13.75. The largest deviations observed for the elements are such that 9.0 for Sn; 10.5 for Ba; 10 for Ni; 13.63 for Zr and Co and 13.75 for Yb. Where as Corg has 6.82. The study area wassubdivided into two sections based on the trace elements and Corg concentrations: 1) Gonen delta area showing an enrichment upon the average values of the concentrations of V, Co, Zn, Ti, P, Zr, Sc, Ba and Corg ( core field No.163), 2) the Marmara entry of the strait of Dardanelles showing a lower accumulation level upon the average abundance of Mo, Ni, Co, Zn, Ti, Pb, Yb, Sc, Nb, Ga,Y,Ba, Sn,Mn, and Corg(core field No.181). Upon these, it was determined that the origin of organic matters is of usually terrestrial and of the type III and. II kerogene.Trace element and organic carbon distribution in those sediments reflect variations depending on the conditions such as the geochemistry of the terrigen matter of the terrestrial origin, grain size distribution and the rate of deposition of sediments, diagenetic oxidation and hydrodynamic agents.
