Abstract

Active geothermal systems in Western Anatolia are important components of Neotectonic period. While the earthquakes or volcanism are taking important place within the Neotectonic studies, geothermal systems has been generally ignored. However the evolution of active geothermal systems in Western Anatolia goes to backwards up to pre-Neotectonik fossil geothermal systems. Active geothermal systems of Early Miocene which are fossil geothermal systems of Quaternary have evaluated and their primary, volcanic - magmatic heat source have changed to present tectonic - magmatic heat source. Thus, they constitute present active geothermal fields of Western Anatolia. The geological evolution of this fossil to active geothermal systems in Western Anatolia shows harmonious relation with a new geodynamic model proposed for Western Anatolia.
