Abstract

This study has been carried out around Huzurkent (Tarsus) to the the west of the Neogene Adana Basin. Carboniferous-Permian age Karahamzauşağı Formation forms the basement in the forms study area. Early-Middle Miocene age Kaplankaya and Karaisalı formations and Late Miocene age Kuzgun formation rest with angular unconformity on the basement unit. The youngest unit which is represented by Quaternary caliche unconformably covers all formations. Stratigraphical position and environmental features of the Kuzgun Formation into the Neojen are investigated in this study. This unit is mainly made up of claystone-siltstone including sand lenses, graded bedded pebblestone, limestone, clayey limestone, and sandstone. Some measured sections have been taken frequently in order to well define the environmental conditions and stratigraphical aspects. Thus, 28 genera and 49 species of ostracodes determined from washing samples collected from the measured sections. The distinguished ostracoda species have been correlated with the others which was reported in the previous studies. Some of the identifined ostracoda species, which represent lagoon and shallow water environmental conditions, belong to Tortonian stage as follows: Cyamocytheridea meniscus, Costa tricostata, Cytheridea acuminata acuminata, Neomonoceratina acupicta, Cytherelloidea glypta, Callistocythere montana. The identified ostracoda species have been correlated with the other ostracoda forms determined in the some other Mediterranean Basins.
