Abstract
Energy is the capability to do work A certain amount of energy should be consumed for the continuation of both economic and social life. World energy consumption has increased dramatically due to the increase in economic development. The consumption of energy brings externalities together. These externalities'and their possible effects are directly linked to the type of the energy source consumed. Green house gases emissions of certain types of hydrocarbon energy sources such as oil, natural gas and coal because of their high energy content result in global climate change and air pollution considerations. Avoiding from or lessen the affects of climate change and air pollution require international cooperation. Kyoto Protocol appears out to be one of the main attempts of the cooperation attempts under consideration. This study, in this context, is trying to find answers to these questions: What is the current structure of world energy consumption composition? What are the possible effects of the air pollution and green house gas emissions on the atmosphere? This paper will also focus on the possible changes in world energy usage to meet the Kyoto Protocol targets that signatory countries are bound to meet by the terms of the Protocol.
