Abstract

Nowadays, ecological crisis has became one of the most serious and urgent problems of the World. In this context, although different solutions suggested, it is seen that particularly two of them are considerable. The first approach has a reformist perspective and argues that the present problems can be resolved by taking some protective measures and partial arrangements in the context of current system. The second one has a more radical perspective and argues that there must be some fundamental alterations in the current economic, political and ideological structures. In this article, "Sustainable Development" and "Deep Ecology" approaches are tackled. As a result of this analysis, it is asserted that Sustainable Development, as a general accepted approach, can be inadequate to overcome the mentioned crisis because of it has an anthropocentric point of view and gives priority to economic anxieties. In this context, it is also argued that "Deep Ecology" can be a guide to the matter of environmental protection and therefore it has to be read more attentively.
