Abstract
Efficient Market is defined as the market where common stock prices fully reflect all available information related to these stocks. As a result of this definition, no one has a chance to get abnormal return by using this information. By this approach, no one has also a chance to record a good performance more than the average in the point of selecting a security. In an efficient market the actual price of a security will be a good estimate of its intrinsic value so, there is not any undervalued or overvalued security in the market. This paper targets to test weak form efficiency of Turkish stock market. Both first and the second session daily closing prices of securities, which are used for calculating the ISE 100 index, for the period of 03.01.2005-31.12.2005, are the database of the search. Independency of the respective price changes is tested for the period. Independency of the respective price changes leads us the validity of weak form efficient market hypothesis. The result of the test proofs that The Istanbul Stock Exchange has no even weak form efficiency.
