Abstract
In this study, a shot peening machine, with which a shot peening process can be accomplished, to increase the fatigue life of metallic materials under cyclic loading has been designed and constructed. To make the design of the machine economically feasible, air blasting and back feeded has been manufactured. To determine the optimum heat-treatment conditions of 7075 aluminium alloy fatigue specimens, different heat treatment methods were applied to these specimens. It was found out that T6 heat treatment was the most convenient one for aging conditions with respect to the highest hardness obtained on the specimen surfaces. 7075 T6 aluminium alloy fatigue specimens were tested with S110 shots under different peening intensities and air blasting pressures. Fatigue life tests of these peened and unpeened specimens were carried out in a rotating bending type fatigue test machine. It was seen from the results that shot peening performed under the pressure of 13.79 kPa, 35 kPa and 34.47 kPa increases the fatigue life of the alloy.
