Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the microleakage and marginal adaptation of restorations performed by fragment reattacment and composite resins in crown fractures involving enamel and dentin. Eighty-four lamb mandibular incisors were fractured horizontally at a distance of 3 mm from the incisal edge. In the first group, Scotchbond Multi Purpose Plus and in the second group PQ1 bonding agents were used for reattachment. The fractured teeth in the third and fourth groups were restored with Scotchbond Multi Purpose Plus / Valux Plus and PQ1 /Amelogen Universal, respectively. The restorations were thermocycled, kept.in 0.5% basic fuchsin solution for 24 hours, sectioned longitudinally and examined by a stereomicroscope. After thermocycling one sample was selected randomly in each group to examine the marginal adaptation. The microleakage scores of buccai and lingual areas in the reattachment groups were found to be statistically higher than those of the composite restoration groups. There were no statistically difference among the materials used in either reattachment or composite groups. In SEM analysis, a perfect adaptation between tooth and restoration was observed in the buccai
