Özet

Araştırmanın amacı, ilköğretim matematik öğretmen adaylarının geometri alan dilini kullanma becerilerini incelemektir. Araştırmanın modeli tarama modelidir. Araştırmanın örneklemini 2012-2013 eğitim öğretim yılında Türkiye’nin yedi coğrafi bölgesinden rastgele seçilmiş yedi devlet üniversitesinin ilköğretim matematik öğretmenliği bölümünde öğrenim gören, geometri dersini almış 2., 3. ve 4. sınıf 350 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama araçları, araştırmacı tarafından üç alan uzmanının görüşü alınarak geliştirilmiş açık uçlu sorularla çoktan seçmeli soruların yer aldığı Geometri Alan Dili Başarı Testidir. Testten elde edilen veriler SPSS 20.0 programı kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Verilerin analizinde Kruskal Wallis, Mann Whitney U Testi yapılmıştır.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyze prospective primary school mathematics teachers’ skills in the use of geometry field language. A general survey model was used as the research model, and the study sample consisted of 350 prospective teachers who had taken geometry class, and who, during the 2012–2013 academic year, were studying in the second, third or fourth years of primary school mathematics teaching departments in seven state universities, selected randomly from seven geographical regions in Turkey. The utilized data collection tools were the Geometry Field Language Achievement Test developed by the researcher based on the opinions of three experts, and comprising open-ended and multiple-choice questions. The data collected through the test was analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 program. Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U tests were used for the analysis of the data. The results of the study revealed no significant differences among the prospective teachers’ success in the use of geometry language in terms of gender, which secondary school they graduated from, type of teaching, age or employment status. However, their university education year had a significant effect on their success in the use of geometry language. Based on the findings of the study, it was ascertained that the success rates of the prospective teachers in the use of geometry field language differed significantly in the different regions.
