Abstract

It was tested in this study to what extent the vocational decision-making program developed for ninth-grade students by Kırdök (2010) based on the information processing theory affected the vocational indecision levels of tenth-grade students. To this end, 32 students attending the 10th grade of a high school were chosen for the study group (16 students in the experimental group and 16 students in the control group.) The research used the pretest-posttest control group design which can also be defined as a 2x2 split-pilot or mixed design. The Vocational Decision Inventory developed by Çakır (2004) was utilized as a data collection instrument to determine the pre- and post-program vocational indecision levels. The vocational decision-making program was implemented by the researcher with the experimental group students in 10 sessions of 70-80 minutes a week. It was concluded in the analyses that there was no significant difference between the experimental and control groups by the pretest score averages whereas a significant difference was discovered by the posttest score averages. This finding shows that vocational indecision scores of the students in the experimental group decreased significantly compared to the scores of the students in the control group. This result indicates that the vocational decisionmaking program tested in the research was effective on decreasing tenth-grade students’ vocational indecision levels.
