Abstract
This Article examines the reconstruction of the past as revealed in a line in one of French literature's most beautiful poems,«Le Balcon»,which Baudelaire dedicated to his mistress, Jeanna Duval and in lines in poems by Sâmî and Mahir, two representatives of 18th Century Turkish Divan poetry. In contrast to the powerful association inherent in Baudelaire's lines resembling prose, the writer finds the Turkish poet's lines more sincere and authentic and emphasizes, with one of Proust' fixations, that the real reconstruction of the past can only be realized through literature: «Real life, that is life that has been discovered and brought to light, is finally the life that has been really lived through literature».
