Ahmet Midhat Efendi'nin Roman Gerçeği

Abstract

Ahmet Midhat Efendi, who is one of the founders and most important names of the Turkish novel, has been underestimated in the history of Turkish literature. The thought that literature for him served as a tool to educate society and the fact that he was public-oriented, have in a sense constituted a justification for disregarding his art. However, this author of Tanzimat literature, which is one of the most significant transformation moments of the Turkish literature, made use of society as the source of his work and tried to form a realistic ıÜüaesthetics, since he truly grasped the particularities of the transition period. New evaluations regarding Ahmet Midhat that are reached in the light of the current latest studies bring about more realistic and objective approaches to his art. The aim of this paper is, basing on the precedent and latest studies, to point to circumstances, which formed Ahmet Midhat Efendi’s novel, and to his contributions to the art of novel and then to advance some opinions
