Abstract
This article makes an attempt at reflecting a sentiment of revolt in Baudelaire, who feels like evading an ordinary world, where the evil rules continuously, by referring to the poems such as The Renegue of Saint Pierre, Abel and Cain, Litany of Devil. By means of an ironic language in order to persuade us, Baudelaire invites readers to observe the faults of the established order based on the Christianity, which leads human to the abyss of fatalism and makes his tragic life even more unbearable. The poet, who tries to explore his very essence, his true nature within the eternal clash between the good and the evil, endeavors to clarify all the questions posed by the miserable conditions of humanity. However, he understands that it is impossible to overcame the incessant battle between Spleen and Ideal, and to attain to the absolute reality. It only remains for him to do nothing but taking shelter in the last refuge revolt, in order to calm his soul, which became dirty by the original sin. Revolted against an indifferent God, who lets him down in front of his executioners, he finally takes his place on the side of Satan, whom he views as “ the most savant and the most beautiful of the Angels”. This Prince in exile gives him the possibility to enter a mysterious universe.
