Abstract
The English traveller from the eighties is trying to recreate the image of the Turkey from the XIXth century and that is why he has a so long journey from the Balkans to Kars. He confronts his travel experience with these of his predecessors in order to understand the reasons of their adventure. He does not aim to study the other’s sensibility, neither the other-world ; he would define himself while he visits the other –world : the East, like the XIXth. century travellers. The modern traveller makes the same journey that the ancient travellers did, he visits, also, the same places and keep the same phobia about the other, but this time this a moderate one.
