About the Creation of Partage de Midi by Paul Claudel

Abstract

The theatrical work of art Partage de midi met great obstacles on the part of its own author, unlike the work of arts of its period. Indeed its author Paul Claudel and in particularly Rosalie Vetch, who was a friend of him, contravened to the presentation of this play which reflects, more or less, the reality. However this did not prevent a group of young students of Zofingue from putting on – although it was in a clandestine way- this play which the audience liked so much on 21 January, 1944. However when Claudel was informed of that he became furious and made the other performances which were to take place in other cities of Switzerland called off. Claudel could not protest any longer and made arrangements before the performance of this play which passed as the global creation of drama in December 1948 in Paris.
