The Theme of Love in Some Works of Yasar Kemal

Abstract

In Yasar Kemal's novels, the heroes' amorous adventures resemble the love motifs in popular literature stories. This article examines these passionate adventures according to two of his works entitled "The Legend" and "The Aggas of the Akchasaz" and are compared to the love intrigues in popular literature. As one of the most prolific and important writers in contemporary Turkish literature, Yasar Kemal posesses his own novelistic conception that is deep rooted in Turkish popular culture. He not only borrows a social frame, a morality, but also themes of the earth, struggle and love that extend from regionalism to universality.
