Abstract
As a mirror of the collective unconscious and of cultural heritage, the city reveals itself in the works of Michel Butor as a plural reality that implies a mixture of ancient and new forms of life and existence. It signifies a space as mental as it is real, a flexible space where several urban forms of modern life can be introduced. When describing any city, Michel Butor does not neglect their topographical and historical characteristics. By making connections between real or non-existent cities, Butor dwells on a concept of the city that provides a complete human landscape.
