Abstract
This essay examines Return to the Desert, the work that marked the turning point of Bernard-Marie Koltes' literary career, with regards to an order/disorder game. The intrigue focuses on the order/disorder game played between the sister, who returns to her childhood home in a province of France to obtain her share of the inheritance, and the brother, who has taken control of the house while the sister was away. The conflict, which is created by this game and gives birth to a text in which characters create one another, follows "the three logical movements of introduction, development, and conclusion". The meeting of die brother and sister recreates the time when they were children which was dominated by this game of order/disorder. The reconciliation will be nevertheless at die end of a voyage on which diey will go to Algeria to live dieir new-found love.
