Abstract

The article entitled “A Masterpiece Heralding the Birth of Poetry Like Prose: Gaspard de la Nuit,” underlines that ‘prose like poetry’ and the translations of tales, legends and ballads from foreign literature have become very popular and pave the way for the birth of poetry like prose. Aloysius Bertrand who began his literary career in the first half of the 19th century was also influenced by this and especially by ballads. Aloysius Bertrand’s Gaspard de la Nuit is among the first and probably the best examples of poetry like prose in France. This article mainly deals with the specific attributes of these texts composed through the strict rules of the genre in generally in six and sometimes in five or seven couplets, moreover it also mentions the first examples of this genre in Turkish literature.
