Abstract

Ataol Behramoğlu’s collection of poetry published in(1941) 2008 entitled Hayata Uzun Veda is like a reference to André Gide’s Thésée (1949) . The author Gide considers Theseus, the founder of Athens, to be his spokesperson and his work to be his spiritual will. The lyrical and legend like texts produced by Behramoğlu who views his fate as intertwined with that of his bretheren, stand as a will proclaiming the traces left behind on this earth in a humane tone. Behramoğlu, unlike Theseus’s Athena, does not leave behind a city but vows to leave us a ‘world of words’ in harmony with the fate of the mortal facing time and death
