Abstract
Since the beginning of Translation Studies, as in every scientific discipline, scholars wanted to bring into life a methodology particular to the field. However, compared with other disciplines, translation is different: It is a domain where theory and practice come together and complete each other. According to Ladmiral, it is a praxeology, i.e. a study primarily based on practice. This practice however cannot exist without the complementarities of theory. By entitling two parts of his book Poétique du traduire « Practice is theory» and « Theory is practice », Meschonnic also insists on the binary aspect of translation which makes it a discipline of its own. That is the reason why, in the field of translation, theorists should translate to use their personal experience in order to produce theories of translation.
